It’s spring break. Really, I should be writing more often, if only for the purpose of putting hypothetical pen to hypothetical paper and stretching the brian a bit.
The thing about creating the soundtrack to my life is the same as anyone on the internet. Do I represent myself as I’d like to be seen? Or as I really am?
Suspect that dichotomy really has room for more explanation. In my life, I’ve tried to narrow that gap as much as possible. This has lead to both success (being told that I’m pretty much exactly as I appear online) and some discomforting failures (my sometime inability to keep all the parts of my life separate from each other leading to me inflicting pointless details of my life on some hapless individual). Too tired to really explore this further. It’s something to keep in mind, though, as I’m trying to flesh out my stories. Probably for the superhero-themed ones.
Off the top of my head, the song that resonates right now is Imogen Heap’s “Hide and Seek”. Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man is probably there as well, as is “Rainbow High” from Evita. One of these days, I’d like to get my hands on the Patti Lupone rendition. And there have to be at least one or two Vienna Teng songs in there, including “Eric’s Song”, and Tori Amos’ “Sleeps with Butterflies”. The most recent song on my list is probably Colbie Caillat’s “Bubbly”.
Sad Spring Break is almost over, but happy to go back. There is work to be done. Books to read, things to watch. I am resolved.
