Last Dance at Midnight WIP

Starting a thread here to track my progress. If this particular project goes anywhere, I’ll archive the entire lot on its own separate page; hopefully that will make it useful to people other than myself.

If that makes no sense, it’s because I should be in bed.

As of now, 96 cards done and most of the way through Act III. The important bits, anyway. I’m plotting roughly on the Greek Three Act structure, but it might break down into more, depending. Beat sheet keeps doing funky things. Also got a phone call from James AD today (who will probably be the producer on this project). It amused me. But I do like the guy–otherwise I wouldn’t bother working with him.

Announcing a new section

As it appears that I have had the movie/film industry on the brain, I’ll try and record any thoughts here for future reflection and processing. I’m thinking a label like “Adventures in Tinseltown.”

As an intro, I’m currently working at…well, on second thought, let’s hold that information for a bit. I’ve not taken especial precautions to shroud my identity in secret, and I know this industry runs on name recognition and credits, so I anticipate a “big reveal” some time in the future. For now, let’s see what pops out of my brain, shall we?

Will mention, though, that I work down the street from what used to be Chiat-Day headquarters–the Frank Gehry designed entrance (pre-wavy metal sheeting phase). And yesterday, I was logging footage at the foot of the Hollywood Sign, around the corner from the Pantages.

At least this time it took me less than a month

Testing out my new Amazon Associates program participation with The Year of Endless Sorrows: A Novel which was very postmodern and took some getting used to, and ultimately I felt like I was reading a combination of William S. Burroughs, RENT the musical, Joan Didion if she were obscene, and a sad ending. The author broke his main character.

Something that made me smile today: The security guard at Ross learning Spanish from one of the customers. “Buenos tardes. Good afternoon. Buenos noches….”

And yes, good old fashioned writing is in order.

I know I write these posts every few months here, but this year I seem to have a better grip on things than usual (as compared to my usual slipshod grasping at everything I want to accomplish). The difference? Clearer objectives as far as what (and how much/often/far) I want to go with projects.

This time, I’m looking at not having an obligation to post every so often–to only post when I do have something to say, no matter the length. This means that every once in a while there will be a Twitter-like once sentence entry (because, as someone said, sometimes experience can only be summed up in half-coherent thought) and hopefully I’ll have it together enough to post something more substantive every so often.

I’d written this a couple weeks ago, in thinking about coming back to blogging regularly in one venue or another: I’ve never been able to be any good at being anyone other than myself–and even then, not so good at that–so eclectic, slightly undisciplined, and spazzy is the way it’s gonna be. Thus the Hangout will probably start reflecting all the different facets of my persona, consistency be damned. Human beings are not consistent.

To that end, this blog might (still thinking on this one) become my personal news site–I’ll try and post updates as far as what’s happening, in the hopes of getting better at regularly updating people as to my whereabouts and whatabouts and also hopefully gaining a bit of perspective instead of constantly looking out at the world from the trenches of my daily life.
New goal/new outlet/new direction: onward, ho!

Still here. Right-o. Umm…lemme muck about a bit more before relaunching in a spiffier version?

Not Forgotten

Monday, February 27th, 2006

Several items are in order here.

First, I’m cross posting at several different places right now. I will move most if not all operations here eventually; I’ve actually been planning this thing for several months now, with the intent of rolling out something much more permanent within the next year or two. That said, right now everything is “under construction” with a Grand Opening date yet to be planned.

This means that things will change every so often–the layout/design, the number of pages, sporadic housekeeping entries and maybe a few more substantive things to build a backlog of reading material for those who want to get a better sense about what I want to do with this page. Some things will refer to entries at my old blogspot location; while I could move the entries over, I much rather prefer starting fresh. One doesn’t get the chance to do so very often, and I might as well take the opportunity where it exists.

Last thing. Keep an eye out for a couple self-debriefings, one for January and February apiece. I’ve had January’s written for quite some time but just haven’t gotten around to pulling it from my files and posting it.

Stick around. It might be fun. :)
